AC Black

Formed in the mid-'80s by identical twins Alvin and Calvin Black (their real last name is "Waters"), this Macon, GA, group was one of the last self-contained R&B groups, along with Mint Condition and Tony! Toni! Tone! However, AC Black was less successful. The group performed in Georgia and surrounding states, gaining a following based on their high energy choreographed performances. AC Black featured a powerfully soulful lead vocalist, Kelvin Jones, a talented multi-instrumentalist, Tracey Orr, and a keyboardist/programmer, Brian Haught. Signed by Taj/Motown Records, AC Black released their one and only album in 1989. The self-titled album featured a minor hit, "Funky Situation," but failed to reach a substantial audience. The group disappeared in the early '90s after performing around the Southeastern U.S. and Japan.
