Le quatrième album d’Ice T, toujours avec sa garde rapprochée (Afrika Islam, DJ Alladin, présents depuis le premier jour) sample abondamment James Brown et les pionniers du funk, Sly & The Family Stone, The JB’s, Funkadelic, Ohio Players, Parliament, avec quelques incursions vers le metal, sa passion révélée, puisque sur « Midnight », il sample Black Sabbath et Led Zeppelin.
Au sommet de sa carrière, Ice T excelle dans sa réthorique fleurie, établissant une sorte de disque étalon du gangsta rap, avec ses excès de sexisme, de violence, mais aussi d’analyse, et de second degré.
Brutal et moral, dans sa propre définition, OG est emporté par un flow fluide, des instrumentaux malins et addictifs, et une production calibrée. On y retrouve « New Jack Hustler (Nino’s Theme) », tiré de la B.O. du film, et bien sûr « Body Count » qui présente ses futures aventures.
De toute évidence, c’est l’album-phare d’un artiste à la personnalité forte.
