The Bay City Jazz Band was one of the first Dixieland groups to be heavily influenced by the two-cornet sound of Lu Watters's Yerba Buena Jazz Band. This CD reissues the second of their two recordings and was cut shortly before the group broke up. Rather than copy Lu Watters, the Bay City Jazz Band used his group as the basis for their sound but came up with fresh arrangements to the dozen trad jazz standards that they perform on this date. Although the band did not have any virtuosoes among its soloists, it did develop a very appealing group sound, featured forceful solos and included many exciting ensembles. Dixieland fans are advised to pick up this set.
