Précédé de l'excellent single « No Reflection », ce nouvel album s'impose comme un retour aux sources tant il rappelle la détermination et l'ambition des premiers opus. Co-produit par Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Vails), Twiggy Ramirez (A Perfect Circle) et Marilyn Manson himself, Born Villain marque aussi une évolution dans la carrière du groupe en révélant de nouvelles influences musicales à l'instar de Killing Joke, Joy Division et Bauhaus.
