Sa longue fréquentation de l'œuvre de Bach a fait de Philippe Herreweghe un homme de mouvement et d'approfondissement. La joie qu'il éprouve à avoir forgé de sa main des outils musicaux aujourd'hui en pleine maturité, le fait revenir aujourd'hui sur une Messe qui n'a jamais cessé de le questionner : la Messe catholique du protestant Bach. Au printemps dernier, la Jesus-Christus Kirche de Berlin a donc résonné des splendeurs d'une partition dont les gravures précédentes ne satisfaisaient plus à la vision rayonnante du maestro flamand. Avec un ensemble de solistes idéaux - inclus au chœur - et un Collegium vocalement et instrumentalement au sommet de sa forme, Herreweghe livre ici un message qu'on méditera avec gourmandise, comme une cène où rigueur et hédonisme, profondeur intérieure et séduction extérieure se donneraient tendrement la main.
