Text in englischer Sprache verfügbarThe young British trumpeter Matilda Lloyd made a major impact while still in her teens, winning a BBC Young Musician of the Year competition and making her debut at the Proms. In her early twenties, she had already launched an international career and released her debut recording. Lloyd was born in 1996 and grew up in the small city of Sevenoaks, southeast of London, where as a youngster she played principal trumpet in the Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra. She had taken up the trumpet at age eight. Lloyd attended Cambridge University, graduating in June of 2017. By that time she had already become well known as a rising young trumpeter. Lloyd's BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass Final win came in 2014, a year in which she also won the Young Brass Award of the BBC Radio 2 network. These wins brought appearances not only at the Proms, but with the BBC Concert Orchestra on a "Friday Night Is Music Night" concert on BBC 2. She served as principal trumpet in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2014 and 2015, winning notice for her execution of prominent trumpet part in Mahler's Symphony No. 5 and then won the same post in the European Union Youth Orchestra in 2016 and 2017. That gave her the chance to work with world-class conductors: Vasily Petrenko, Gianandrea Noseda, and Bernard Haitink. Lloyd enrolled for a Master's degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2017, studying with Mark David and taking master classes with Håkan Hardenberger as a Britten Pears Young Artist. Lloyd released her debut album, Direct Message, with pianist John Reid on the Orchid Classics label in 2018. That year brought her a busy concert schedule at major British venues, including appearances at London's Wigmore Hall, St. James' Piccadilly, St-Martin-in-the-Fields, and St John's Smith Square. She plans to write a history of music from prehistoric times to the present day.
