Lipps Inc.
Lipps, Inc. were an American funk and disco band, best known for their 1980 global hit "Funkytown." Formed in 1979 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the group originally consisted of lead singer Cynthia Johnson and producer Steven Greenberg, who made their official debut later that year with the studio album Mouth to Mouth. "Funkytown," the second single from the LP, became an unexpected hit across the globe in 1980, topping the charts in 28 countries and achieving double platinum sales. In the following years, Lipps, Inc. continued to deliver dance floor-ready singles like "All Night Dancing" and "How Long," both of which cracked the Top 10 of the US dance charts in 1981. Right after the release of their third full-length Designer Music (1981), vocalist Cynthia Johnson quit the band and was replaced by Margie Cox and Melanie Rosales. 4, Lipps, Inc.'s final outing, arrived in 1983, two years before the band's dissolution.
