Warren Zevon
Warren Zevon nait à Chicago le 24 janvier 1947. Issu d'une famille d'émigrés russes, ce prolifique chanteur, auteur-compositeur se fait connaître dans les années 1960 en écrivant pour The Turtles et en enregistrant un premier album produit par Kim Fowley.Son deuxième album, Warren Zevon (1976, produit par Jackson Browne), est salué par la critique, tandis que Linda Ronstadt lui reprend sa chanson « Hasten Down The Wind ». Deux ans plus tard, Excitable Boy met en avant son talent d'auteur plein d'humour et très critique envers le monde politique américain. L'album contient notamment la chanson « Werwolves of London », qui sera reprise dans le film de John Landis American Werewolf, en 1981.
Malgré l'excellent Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School (1980) et la collaboration avec Bruce Springsteen sur la chanson « Jeannie Needs A Shooter », Zevon commence une longue traversée du désert, accentuée par son penchant pour la bouteille. Il se reprend fort heureusement en 1987 avec Sentimental Hygiene, où l'on note la participation de musiciens aussi prestigieux que Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), Brian Setzer (Stray Cats) ou, plus inattendu, George Clinton. Il se remet alors à enregistrer, allant jusqu'à rapprocher rock et Stravinsky sur Transverse City, en 1989. Il décède à Los Angeles le 7 septembre 2003.
