Swan Lake
An indie rock supergroup with ties to Destroyer, the New Pornographers, Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes, and Wolf Parade, Swan Lake formed in 2005 around the shared talents of Dan Bejar, Spencer Krug, and Carey Mercer. The collaboration was a long time in the making, as all three musicians had previously worked together in some capacity. Krug, also of Wolf Parade, had worked on and off with Mercer's Frog Eyes for years, and both musicians were former roommates. Meanwhile, Bejar called upon Frog Eyes to serve as his backing band for Destroyer's 2005 opus, Your Blues. Together, the musicians also recorded new versions of songs from Your Blues entitled Notorious Lightning and Other Works. Before 2005 came to a close, the three friends dismantled their temporary name, the Songwriters Project, and christened themselves Swan Lake. Their self-produced debut album, Beast Moans, arrived in November 2006 via the Jagjaguwar label. Enemy Mine followed in 2009, featuring a more collaborative approach to the bandmates' songwriting.
