Edgardo Nuñez

Edgardo Nuñez is a singer, songwriter, and accordionist in the Mexican Regional genre. His songs employ vocabularies from corridos tumbados, romanticos, and ranchera, all woven into a canny melodic sensibility that joins these folk styles to Latin pop and urban sounds. His playful sense of humor, reedy, resonant, light baritone singing voice, and his warm delivery underscore a canny melodic sensibility compounded by a warm, welcoming stage persona. Since arriving in 2020 with "No Hay Detalle," he's released dozens of singles and collaborated with chart-topping artists ranging from Peso Pluma, Luis R. Conríquez, and Fuerza Regida (the smash "Billete Grande") to La Séptima Banda, Julián Mercado, and Remmy Valenzuela. Nuñez's chart hits including "Loco Enamorado" (feat. Junior H), "Billete Grande," "Eres," "Pideme La Luna," and "El Ruddy" to name a few. In May 2023 he hit the charts with "No Quero Perdete," assisted by Codigo FN; in August he did it again with the corrido "Que Te Vaya Bien" and in October with "Polvo Soy" (feat. Los Dareyes De Las Sierra). He finished the year with "Ya No Llores BB" in December. Nuñez was born in Guadalajara. He learned to play the accordion at 14. Deeply influenced by iconic Mexican Regional artists, he decided to pursue music early on. He emigrated with his mother to Phoenix, Arizona at 15 and held many jobs, from washing and bussing dishes to landscaping and cleaning. Already an accomplished accordionist, he got early gigs playing baptisms, weddings, Quinceañeras, etc. Through these appearances, where he performed original songs alongside legacy material, he developed a local following. By the time he was 17 he was posting his own songs to social media and video platforms. His first solo single, "No Hay Detalle," appeared on streaming platforms in December 2020 and registered a respectable 100,000 streams. In January 2021, the mariachi "Pio Diaz" got more than three times that. Over the next two months he released more than half-a-dozen live singles including "El Danny De Chicali" with guests Danny Morales and La Decima Banda -- his first single to gain a million streams. May's "Me Cambio La Suerte" scored more than eight million streams. In July he released "El Sur de Phoenix," his debut on Genesis Records, for a total of 18 singles released in 2021. In January 2022, Nuñez released "Yo Soy El Pirata," that registered airplay across the U.S. and Mexico with more than 35 million streams. He issued several collaborative singles in 2022 including "Perfectas Para Mi" with La Negacion Nortena, three with Banda Los Populares Del Llano including "Dueno De Ti," "La Negra" with Dani Tapia, and the viral "Billete Grande" with Fuerza Regida that garnered an astonishing 266 million streams and charted in seven countries. In November, "Loco Enamorado" featuring Junior H, also charted, as did their second single, "Ciudad Peligrosa," in December, releasing a total of 23 songs that year. The artist turned 23 in 2023 and he kept to his feverish pace. January saw "Le Compri Casa a Mi Ama," a charting collab with Luis R. Conriquez. He followed with several more over the next few months including "Ahi Les Encargo" with Julian Mercado, and the extremely traditional banda "Si Esta Botella Jablara" with Gabito Ballesteros and "El Michoacano" with Los Farmerz. While May's solo "Eres Tu" didn't chart, it was written about by critics extensively for its sublime meld of cumbia, ranchera, and 21st century Latin pop. Later in May, "No Quiero Perderte," with Codigo FN, did chart. In June, Nuñez and Dareyes De Las Sierra joined Peso Pluma on the single "VVS" from his album Genesis. It registered more than 110 million streams and marked the first Hot 100 appearance by Pluma's collaborators. Nuñez's solo "E De Las Mieles" charted in six countries. In October, he enlisted Los Dareyes De La Sierra to assist on his dramatic "Polvo Soy." In November, both artists joined Conriquez on his charting single "De Fresa y Coco." Nuñez closed out 2023 with December's charting romantico "Ya No LLores BB," after releasing and/or collaborating on 20 additional singles.
