Duke Robillard Band
Michael 'Duke' Robillard has built a reputation as an expert jazz and blues guitar player. Although famous in his own right, his long career has also been built on contributions made to other artist's work and Robillard has always been in demand as a session player. He is able to cross genres and can play in a wide variety of styles but specialises in jazz, blues, rockabilly and swing. His core style is widely acknowledged to be similar to the legendary blues player T-Bone Walker. Robillard's versatility as a guitarist has led to a playing career spanning many decades appearing on over 60 albums. His career began when he co-founded the band Roomful Of Blues in 1967, quitting the group in '79 after recording their self-titled album. He continued his career with various blues combos, most notably Duke Robillard And The Pleasure Kings and the highly respected Fabulous Thunderbirds. Whilst performing with these bands he simultaneously had a career as a jazz guitarist releasing a number of solo albums. As a session player he has recorded with acts as diverse as Tom Waits, Jimmy Witherspoon and Wham! and in 2013 he briefly joined Bob Dylan's band as a lead guitarist but left shortly after the tour started. During his career he has recieved numerous awards for his playing excellence including nominations for two Grammy Awards.
