D.A. Wallach

As one half of Harvard-bred indie pop duo Chester French, David-Andrew Wallach (or D.A. Wallach, professionally) rose from obscurity when he and bandmate Maxwell Drummey's 2007 demo attracted the attention of both Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. The band became the subject of a bidding war and eventually signed with Williams' Star Trak label, where they released their eclectic 2009 debut, Love the Future. With his keen sense of melody and penchant for classic pop arrangements, Wallach became a versatile collaborator with a number of acts outside of his work with Chester French. In 2010, he was tapped by Williams to co-write the song "The Way It Is (Vector's Theme)" for the movie Despicable Me, and the following year he joined up with Jamaican producer Supa Dups to release a handful of singles under the name D.A. and the Supa Dups. Following Chester French's 2012 LP Music 4 Tngrs, Wallach began working primarily on solo material, releasing his first two singles, "Farm" and "Glowing," in 2013 on Capitol's Harvest Records imprint. His piano-led solo work leaned heavily on classic pop styles from the '60s and '70s, calling to mind forebears like Paul McCartney and Elton John. Working with a number of collaborators like Pharrell Williams and songwriters Dan Wilson and Diane Warren, he recorded his debut LP, Time Machine, which was released by Harvest in October 2015.
