Camino

Mississippi-bred singer/songwriter Camino brings passion and fire to his bluesy, soulful pop. He signed on with Def Jam in 2019 and honed his sound on the 2021 EP Burning Fire. The single "The One" arrived in 2023. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Camino grew up singing and performing in church while learning how to rap and play various instruments. He moved to Atlanta with designs on becoming a professional rapper, but he struggled at first. For nearly a year, he pursued a rap career while dealing with occasional homelessness and multiple false starts. He worked for a time with Akon, and though that connection secured Camino a record deal, it turned out to be another dead end, and the deal fizzled. He relocated to Los Angeles, and the songs he took from his previous deal caught the attention of Def Jam. The label signed Camino in 2019 on the strength of his new sound, which was more hearty soul and gospel-informed pop than rap. After releasing several stand-alone tracks, he issued his debut EP, Burning Fire, in April 2022. The title track from the set gained some momentum of its own, being streamed over ten million times. In April 2023, he returned with the breakup anthem "The One."
