Avec XTRMNTR, Primal Scream perd ses belles voyelles et se rebaptise le temps d’une pochette apocalyptique PRML SCRM. Et avec ses voyelles, le groupe perd beaucoup en rondeur.
XTRMNTR est un album rude qui marie le rock à l’electro dans un grand bain d’agressivité. Comme une descente aux enfers de la modernité, Primal Scream nous emmène dès le début de l’album et le sombre « Kill All The Hippies » dans les bas-fonds, les vrais, là où leur musique puise sa légitimité.
Mais c’est la chanson « Swastika Eyes » et son titre improbable qui résume le mieux cet album fourre-tout mais génial. La présence des Chemical Brothers et de Kevin Shields, le guitariste de My Bloody Valentine, achèvent de faire de cet album une indispensable curiosité.
