The Maccabees fut l'une des sensations anglaises de l'année 2007 avec l'album Colour It In et sa myriade de singles, pas moins de cinq extraits, qui réunirent les critiques dans l'éloge.
De ce premier album produit par Stephen Street perçaient nettement les influences du groupe payant son tribut aux Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party et chassant sur les terres de The Futureheads. À l'heure du deuxième essai, réalisé par Markus Dravs, The Maccabees tente un rapprochement vers le son des Canadiens Arcade Fire. Mélodies passées en force, riffs acérés et basse vrombissante sont toujours au programme, soutenant le chant versatile d'Orlando Weeks sur de fulgurants « Can You Give It » et « No Kind Words », ou le flottant finale « Bag of Bones ».
The Maccabees réussit à s'échapper de toute tutelle par un style éclectique et un son vraiment personnel. Ces jeunes outsiders au look d'étudiants ont tout pour devenir de futurs rois du rock indépendant.
