Quel dommage, ne peut-on s'empêcher de s'exclamer avec la sortie de Throw It to the Universe, annoncé par TSOOL comme son dernier album. Pas tant justement à cause de cette annonce, plutôt du fait que si c'est bien le cas le combo suédois rate sa sortie. Après un parcours plutôt exemplaire, The Soundtrack of Our Lives tire sa révérence sur une fausse note.
Après avoir sorti en 2008 le double album Communion qui marque l'aboutissement de son parcours artistique, The Soundtrack of Our Lives est à la limite de l'auto-parodie sur Throw It to the Universe. Certes, le groupe de Göteborg ne s'est jamais privé de citer musicalement ses influences en empruntant sans trop de vergogne des bouts de riff par ci, des intonations par là. Sauf que cette fois, ça va vraiment très loin.
Nul besoin d'être très attentif ni grand connaisseur des pierres qui roulent, pour reconnaître dans la fin de « Throw It to the Universe » une partie de guitare plus qu'inspirée de The Rolling Stones. « Faster Than the Speed of Light » offre une approche psychédélique trop calquée sur celle de The Flaming Lips. « Busy Land » n'est pas loin de sombrer dans le ridicule et fait partie des pires chansons de TSOOL.
Tout n'est heureusement pas négatif dans Throw It to the Universe et « Freeride » ou « What's the Story? » tirent plutôt bien leur épingle du jeu. Surtout le premier nommé qui est une bonne évocation du flower power et de son mélange de rock et de folk, envoyé dans les étoiles par le biais des buvards à trois lettres qu'aimait tant la petite Lucy. Cela reste insuffisant pour sauver un album, dont il faut souhaiter qu'il ne soit pas réellement le dernier de The Soundtrack of Our Lives. Il nous doit désormais une revanche.
