« Treize contes de la bohème urbaine » qui s’enchaînent comme une seule plage et voient les Dandy Warhols prendre le risque (payant) de se diversifier dans leurs compositions.
Ils enrichissent ainsi leur son en invitant des musiciens extérieurs, notamment pour jouer des parties de trompette, ce qui évoque parfois le Love de Forever Changes. On remarque même sur un titre (« Get Off ») l’ami Anton Newcombe, du Brian Jonestown Massacre, à la guitare. Les morceaux à rallonge sont moins nombreux, beaucoup se conformant à la limite des quatre minutes – ce que les radios n’ont pu qu’apprécier.
Les Warhols osent même un titre aux accents très roots, « Country Leaver » avec guitare slide et contrebasse : on sent alors chez le groupe une joie de jouer et un sens de la déconne qui n’avaient pas percé sur l’album précédent. Autant d’enthousiasme ne pouvait être que communicatif et le tempo impeccable de Brent DeBoer à la batterie, les claviers parfois rigolos de Zia McCabe et les guitares trépidantes de Courtney Taylor-Taylor (qui imite parfaitement Iggy Pop sur « Shakin’ ») et Pete Holmström n’ont alors pas d’équivalent dans le paysage rock. La plus grande réussite des Dandy Warhols à ce jour.
