The Orchard, un album intime, profondément personnel, figure parmi les plus incontestables de la carrière de l'artiste. Avec l'aide du chanteur compositeur Toshi Reagon, de Marc Anthony Thompson (qui enregistre sous le nom de Chocolate Genius), et des membres de Ollabelle, Calexico et le groupe de Bob Dylan, Lizz Wright a créé une atmosphère organique magnifique sur The Orchard : le moyen parfait de nous transmettre sa voix expressive et sa vision originale de composition. Mais c'est Lizz Wright elle-même qui est la plus éclatante sur ce disque, que ce soit sur des originaux époustouflants tels que "When I Fall" ou sur ses interprétations de "I Idolize You" de Ike et Tina, ou de "Thank You" de Led Zeppelin.
