Premier album solo pour Alison Goldfrapp, qui s’émancipe, à 56 ans, du duo qu’elle forme depuis presque vingt-cinq ans avec Will Gregory, et qui a marqué l’histoire de la musique avec l’album Supernature en 2005, synthétisant synthpop, disco et electroclash. C’est la pandémie qui a déclenché les velléités d’indépendance de la chanteuse, qui a toujours vu son producteur travailler sur d’autres projets (Will Gregory compose régulièrement pour l’opéra, la télévision ou le théâtre anglais). Elle a d’abord tâté le terrain avec Impossible, le premier titre de sa carrière sous son propre nom, sur l’album du retour du duo norvégien Röyksopp, Profound Mysteries.
Pour ce premier long format, elle s’est bien entourée avec James Greenwood alias Ghost Culture, qui produit notamment les disques de Daniel Avery, et Richard X, auteur de plusieurs hits pop avec des chanteuses comme Annie, Kelis ou Róisín Murphy, et qui a produit Head First, le 5e album du duo Goldfrapp. Résultat, un disque qui penche du côté dancefloor, entre house, disco, électropop et new wave, avec des titres calibrés pour l’été comme So Hard So Hot ou NeverStop. Le choix des featurings place définitivement le disque dans le bac clubbing, avec la vedette allemande Claptone sur Digging Deeper et la star d’Ibiza Paul Woolford sur Fever.
