Après 45 ans de bons et loyaux services, Runrig a tiré sa révérence en 2018. Le groupe s’était déjà séparé en 2010, le temps pour chacun des membres d’assouvir des projets plus personnels, mais il s’était retrouvé un an plus tard en 2012 à l’occasion du Rewired Tour, qui annonçait avec un peu d’avance l’intention du groupe de rock celtique de dignement fêter ses 40 ans d’existence l’année suivante.
Tandis que Runrig s’octroyait un quatorzième album bonus en 2017, intitulé The Story, leur décision de quitter les planches, cette fois-ci définitivement, mûrissait sérieusement. Mais les Irlandais voulaient que ce départ soit une fête, et c’est pour cela qu’ils se lancèrent dans une nouvelle et donc ultime tournée, The Final Mile. Celle-ci s’achevait dans la plus grande émotion lors du dernier show donné par Runrig à Stirling, au cœur de l’Écosse. C’est ce concert poignant que The Last Dance Farewell Concert propose de revivre, à travers trois disques d’une remarquable richesse. Il fallait au moins cela pour rendre justice au groupe et les adieux (un peu) moins déchirants.
Les fans retrouveront avec bonheur les standards que sont « Protect and Survive », « The Greatest Flame », « Canada », « The Place Where The Rivers Run », « Book of Golden Stories » ou encore « Maymorning » dans des versions d’une incroyable intensité. S’il est vrai que toutes les bonnes choses ont une fin, toutes les choses n’ont pas systématiquement une bonne fin. Runrig aura indiscutablement soigné et ô combien réussi sa sortie. Le tube « Loch Lomond », à la tension tellement palpable, est le parfait résumé de ce presque demi-siècle passé à regonfler les cœurs celtes.
