Ernestine Anderson made a full comeback during her Concord years after a long period of neglect. This 1998 sampler has one selection apiece from a dozen of her Concord releases, and it hits most of the high points. including "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (from her breakthrough appearance at the 1976 Concord Jazz Festival), "As Long As I Live," "Please Send Me Someone to Love," and an extended remake version of "Never Make Your Move Too Soon." Anderson is heard throughout in peak form, whether backed by a trio, joined by the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra or the Juggernaut, or accompanied by such all-stars as Ed Bickert, Dave McKenna, Hank Jones, Gene Harris, Red Holloway, George Shearing (she duets with the pianist on "Body and Soul"), Monty Alexander, Benny Carter or her good friend Ray Brown. More serious collectors will want her complete releases, but this is an excellent acquisition for those not familiar with the soulful singer.
