Deux accords de synthés et tout est dit ! Il n’en faut pas plus pour reconnaître le son si singulier d’Eurythmics, groupe emblématique des années 80. Le tandem constitué d’Annie Lennox et de Dave Stewart symbolise parfaitement cette new wave synthétique (pop dans son fond, futuriste dans sa forme) propre à cette décennie où les guitares étaient presque devenues persona non grata… Le duo britannique squattera le sommet des charts durant toutes ces années 80 mais leurs Sweet Dreams resteront leur œuvre phare. A la partition, Dave Stewart se lance dans une new wave sombre à la Bowie (Love Is A Stranger) ou ose le krautrock light (Sweet Dreams). Il peut aussi être funky (I’ve Got An Angel) voire même disco (Wrap It Up). Au micro, Annie Lennox impressionne en optant pour une voix soul ou, au contraire, carrément austère.
