The Persuasions have always included a gospel tune or two on their albums, but this is their first set completely devoted to the gospel harmony of their Southern youth--the music made by legendary groups like the Swan Silvertones, Harmonizing Four, Soul Stirrers, Swanee Quintet, Pilgrim Travelers, Five Blind Boys and Dixie Hummingbirds. Highlights include Jimmy Haye's bass lead on "Walk in Jerusalem," an ode to Jimmy Jones, the bass lead of the Harmonizing Four, who initially inspired him to take up singing; tenor Joe Russell's lead on "Thank You For One More Day", a tribute to his boyhood idol Ira Tucker of the Hummingbirds; and leader Jerry Lawson's beautiful version of the traditional narrative "Deck of Cards."
