Outside the umbra of alt-rock band Switchfoot, Jon Foreman’s music takes on a more mellow, countrified manner. In 2007, the gentle-toned singer embarked on a series of EPs evoking the four seasons. SUMMER, the final installment, summons up a mostly gentle, breezy solstice, broken up only by the furious “Resurrect Me.” Foreman’s compositions feel conjured from a distant prairie-filled land, simultaneously achingly alone and teeming with energy. As a devout and unabashed Christian, he infuses the record with a certain spiritual tone, but it’s more an element of a philosophy than the overarching theme.
