Après David Holmes, c’est au tour de Daniel Pemberton (Le Grand Jeu, Steve Jobs…) de mettre en musique cette saga adaptée d’un long-métrage de 1960 (L’Inconnu de Las Vegas). Dans cette partition énergique, on retrouve l’esprit rétro associé aux films de Steven Soderbergh, même si le concept s’est quelque peu « modernisé » puisqu’on a désormais affaire à des arnaqueuses – et non plus un gang d’hommes. Ici, ce n’est plus Georges Clooney, mais Sandra Bullock qui mène la danse en organisant d’une main de maître un cambriolage de bijoux durant le fameux Gala du Met, en compagnie de sept autres femmes. Parmi les grands moments de cette BO, citons NY Larceny (clin d’œil à Hugo Montenegro, dont le fantôme hante la musique de Pemberton) et surtout une reprise mi-jazzy, mi-pop de la Fugue en ré mineur de Bach, destinée à illustrer le passé du personnage de Sandra Bullock (mais aussi son intelligence machiavélique). Tout en se référant abondamment à des figures d'autrefois, Pemberton sort parfois son artillerie électronique, notamment dans Moog Necklace, une plage épique dans laquelle les sonorités élégantes et ludiques du célèbre synthétiseur vintage trouvent leur place au sein d’une production résolument contemporaine. Entre électro et jazz-pop, énergie et nostalgie, voici une bande originale qui prouve une nouvelle fois la talentueuse versatilité de Daniel Pemberton. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
