Deux ans après son passage à la Star Academy, sort le premier album de Sofia Essaïdi, intitulé Mon Cabaret. Pour l’élaboration de ce premier disque, la jeune Franco-marocaine a collaboré avec des artistes comme Quentin Bachelet pour la musique et la production, Chet (parolier d’Olivia Ruiz) pour les textes mais encore Jérôme Rebotier et Maïdi Roth (connue pour son passage dans la série Plus belle la vie).
Dans cet album, figure bien entendu la version jazzy du titre de Police, « Roxanne », qui était sorti en single en mars 2004 ; en ouverture, figure le premier extrait : « Mon Cabaret », titre dance-pop donnant lieu à un clip sexy à souhait.
Ce premier album propose un mélange de groove et de sonorités jazzy soulignant merveilleusement la délicatesse de son chant et les textes. La jeune femme parle d’amour (« Amour Amant », « Après l’amour »…) ou rend hommage au glamour, à travers les figures de Marilyn Monroe, Betty Boop ou encore Brigitte Bardot dans un piquant « Shoop Shoop » teinté de music-hall ; ailleurs, elle évoque son meilleur ami : « Mon Lit ».
Panaché musical et textuel plein de sensualité (la bossa « Abuse de moi »), d’humour et de douceur amoureuse (« Amnésie »), ce premier album de Sofia Essaïdi est une belle réussite musicale. Qui saura passer outre le premier single (« Mon Cabaret ») trompeur et sans grand relief, pourra apprécier ce disque, qui évite les écueils du sexy outrancier.
Varié et riche de nuances, Mon Cabaret s’avère un disque enthousiasmant, original et personnel – chose suffisamment rare pour une artiste issue d’un télé-crochet pour être saluée.
