Part street mixtape, part song-oriented double-album, Houston MC 50/50 Twin samples liberally from the likes of Clipse and 50 Cent, but employs his native region’s chopped-and-screwed style of slowed-down production to complement his methodical raps. The finest moments on this 50-track set are its more ominous tracks, like “Smooth Criminal,” on which a symphonic loop evokes horrocore menace; 50/50’s flow is like an audible threat without even hearing the lyrics. M.O.E. can be tough to navigate through, but it’s a vital symbol of what’s happening in the Houston underground.
