Souvent comparés aux Arctic Monkeys pour le simple fait qu’ils sont également originaires de Sheffield, les Reverend ont pourtant bien leur univers à eux…un univers qu’ils prennent plaisir à renouveler régulièrement. La preuve avec ce Mirrors qui n’a rien à voir avec les précédentes créations du groupe. C’est ici d’un concept album qu’il s’agit, constituant le travail le plus ambitieux de la formation mais aussi probablement le plus réussi. Leur valant les congratulations de Noel Gallagher (fait assez rare pour être signalé), le disque a été enregistré à Sheffield et en Jamaïque, et produit avec l’aide d’Alan Smyth (Pulp, Arctic Monkeys). La voix chaude de Jon McClure se pose sur des ballades où cuivres et chœurs répondent aux riffs de guitares folk et rock sortis tout droit des sixties. Une belle réussite. © LG/Qobuz
