Avec ce premier album (un live) des grands terroristes soniques du Michigan, le rock’n’roll entre corps et âme dans une violence salvatrice et méchamment furibarde. Lors de ce concert enregistré au Grande Ballroom de Detroit en octobre 1968, Wayne Kramer et Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith tabassent leurs guitares comme des bouchers de génie. Micro au poing, Rob Tyner est un James Brown d’ivoire en transe. Evidemment, le génie rock’n’roll du Five ne se limite pas à ce simple tsunami électrique. Il puise son énergie comme sa folie dans le rock primitif des Troggs, le jazz libertaire de Sun Ra et le blues cru de John Lee Hooker. Avec les Stooges d’Iggy Pop, le MC5 fait régner sur l’industrielle Detroit la loi du bruit et de la fureur.
