Avec sa voix basse et profonde, Josh Turner se jette pour ce septième album dans l’univers du gospel. I Serve a Savior est un disque qui faisait envie au baryton country depuis longtemps et cela s’entend ! Impliqué et passionné, Turner revisite des grands classiques country comme I Saw the Light d’Hank Williams ou I Pray My Way out of Trouble de Loretta Lynn. Accompagné des harmonies de Sonya Isaacs, il emprunte un véritable chemin de foi où le lyrisme, le salut, la joie et l’éveil spirituel se présentent à chaque tournant. Cette voix hypnotisante et un brin nasillarde, qui chatouille le ventre lorsque retentit l’interprétation d’Amazing Grace, suivi d’une dévotion totale sur I Serve a Savior, laisse penser que la star a bien été frappée par une vision mystique. Mais le point culminant de l’album reste Without Him. Une sérénade acoustique enrobée de sonorités country qui ne manque pas d’affirmer la grandeur de Jésus et de le célébrer en musique. Une affaire qui devient aussi familiale, puisque sa femme et ses trois enfants chantent avec la plus grande pureté une de ses compositions, The River (Of Happiness). Une sorte de bénédiction à travers laquelle il souhaite une vie paisible à ses proches.
