Hilang Child

U.K.-based singer/songwriter Ed Riman goes by the moniker Hilang Child, producing atmospheric pop filled with expansive textures and rich vocal harmonies. On albums like 2021's Every Mover, he reflects on his coming-of-age life experiences through lush, spacious songs blending intricately detailed electronic elements with dreamy piano melodies and woodwind arrangements. Originally from South London, Riman is half Welsh and half Indonesian. His pseudonym is Malay for "missing child." After starting his musical career as a drummer, he began writing and recording songs and soundscapes, releasing the early EP First Writings (2013) and single "The Garth Waterman" (2014) on Third Rock Recordings. His music caught the attention of former Cocteau Twins member Simon Raymonde, who invited him to contribute to Ojalá, the 2017 full-length by Lost Horizons, Raymonde's project with Richie Thomas (Dif Juz). Hilang Child then signed to Raymonde's Bella Union label and released the largely self-produced debut album Years in 2018, with guest collaborators including Kwes. and trumpeter Yazzmin Newell. The mainly acoustic and piano-based Stripped.Rebuilt EP was issued in 2019, and several 2020 singles preceded Hilang Child's second full-length, Every Mover, which arrived in early 2021.
