Quand on vient de Louisiane, on a toujours les oreilles grandes ouvertes. Toujours ! Soul, blues, zydeco, rock, jazz, R&B, funk, pop, country, aucun natif de la région de La Nouvelle-Orléans ne se pose la question des étiquettes et des genres. Il y a juste la bonne et la mauvaise musique. Point. Brittany Guerin alias Britti en est la énième preuve. Née à Baton Rouge, cette chanteuse dénichée par Dan Auerbach des Black Keys maîtrise tous les styles qui résonnent dans ce Sud au groove si singulier. Et comme Britti habille ses chansons d’un certain classicisme, on pense souvent à des aînées tout aussi classiques. Diana Ross (Save Me) et Dolly Parton (Keep Running), mais aussi Norah Jones, Erykah Badu et Amy Winehouse (en moins revêche) comptent parmi ses idoles, et ça s’entend sur son premier album, Hello, I’m Britti. Un titre faisant évidemment référence au premier album de Dolly Parton de 1967, Hello, I’m Dolly... Ça s’entend mais sans jamais brider son inspiration, son style ni sa personnalité. Expert en quincaillerie du XXe siècle et en sonorités vintage, Auerbach signe la production adéquate, avec juste ce qu’il faut de sépia. C’est évidemment lui qui a rassemblé autour de la chanteuse des tueurs de studio parmi lesquels le bassiste Nick Movshon (Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan et un bon paquet d’albums du label Daptone), le batteur Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant et Alison Krauss, Sharon Van Etten, Rhiannon Giddens), le guitariste Tom Bukovac (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks), et le magicien des claviers Mike Rojas (Ricky Skaggs, Yola, Miranda Lambert). Soutenu par ce casting rutilant, Hello, I’m Britti fait défiler les vignettes soul, les parenthèses country pop ou les rêveries R&B avec beaucoup d’aisance et une certaine classe.
