Premier album d’Ace of Base, Happy Nation est, parmi les multiples hits plus ou moins jetables des années 1990, de ceux qui demeurent d’une écoute assez agréable.
Surtout notable par la présence du hit mondial « All That She Wants », sympathique scie à l’originale sonorité de reggae nordique, l’album demeure un opus tout à fait estimable et montre que Ace of Base valait mieux que son nom de groupe industriel de dance music.
Portées par les voix très agréables des sœurs Berggren et par des compositions plutôt efficaces, Happy Nation est plus réussi que ce que laisseraient supposer ses conditions de réalisation – l’album ayant été enregistré à grande vitesse pour profiter du succès du single « All That She Wants » - et laisse attendre avec un certain intérêt ce que donnera le come-back annoncé du groupe.
