Hardcore electronic dance beats from a Mexican duo that comes across like a south-of-the-border version of industrial pioneers Cabaret Voltaire circa "Sensoria," From Abuse to Apostasy is a weird mix of up-to-the-minute and completely retro. Like many albums that can be broadly lumped under the electroclash banner, there's a definite Golden Age of Sequencers feel to the thumping Roland 808 beats and a pre-Nine Inch Nails industrial-trance vibe predominates. On the other hand, the overall tone of the album, with its harshly delivered, menacing vocals and doomy lyrics, is equally attuned to the darkwave and European death metal scenes. By the album's end, however, the implacable, trancey throb of From Abuse to Apostasy makes it primarily an album for the goth-dance crowd. [Note: some editions include a bonus disc featuring eight otherwise unavailable tracks.]
