Le rap de Floride est souvent peu considéré au sein de la grande confrérie des rappeurs du Sud, mais dans la lignée de Trick Daddy ou Rick Ross, Plies en transmet la rage brutale dans ce deuxième album qui revisite les grands thèmes gangsta inventés par NWA : les bitches, la réalité, la violence, ce genre de thèmes éculés.
Plies, dans cet univers balisé, n’invente rien. Son flow sans éclat et sa voix sans aspérités ne sont pas non plus des révolutions. Mais il a pour lui le sens du moment, il se coule dans le style en vigueur, le southern rap des Lil Wayne et autres TI, avec un sens réel de l’efficacité. Cette propension à commettre des albums en série, sans laisser « reposer les choses », implique des baisses de régime, ou une uniformité inhérente au genre. Mais ça et là, un vrai tube revient mettre les pendules à l’heure, tel ce « Bust It Baby (Parts 2) », un mid tempo emmené par l’organe sirupeux de Ne-Yo, jouant sur le contraste d’une rythmique effrénée qui crée un déséquilibre intéressant avec la mélodie. Un morceau calibré pour la radio, et qui fait mouche. Plies sait forcément que sa carrière risque de durer l’espace d’une paire d’années ; il n’a pas de temps à perdre.
