A seulement 20 ans, la chanteuse/compositrice américaine Halsey publie son premier album Badlands, dont le nom (qui qualifie une terre désolée et désertique) fait référence à l’état d’esprit dans laquelle la jeune artiste se trouvait lors de l’écriture des chansons. S’il y a bien une chose que l’on ne peut pas reprocher à Halsey c’est son manque d’honnêteté, elle n’hésite pas à dire ce qu’elle a sur le cœur et affirme elle-même que ses compositions traitent majoritairement de sexe et du fait d’être triste… le décor est planté, et la chanteuse s’y meut avec une aisance déconcertante, faisant preuve d’une grande maturité pour son si jeune âge et signant un album electro/pop dans la veine de Lorde et de Ellie Goulding. Cette dualité entre atmosphères glacées et le tempérament de feu d’Halsey fait de cet album une belle surprise. © LG/Qobuz
