Presented here are all the finest tunes by Corpus Christi's beloved Selena, the late queen of Tejano music. Through a graceful weaving of traditional and contemporary pop sensibilities, she made herself into a true diva. One need only listen to the transitions between tracks to understand. To a bittersweet melody and the sound of bouncing synthesizers, the chart-topping "Amor Prohibido" tells of a love forbidden by societal convention. "Tu Solo Tu" follows, an acoustic cantina gem backed by mariachis. Selena alternates keenly between the sweet, the salty, the smooth, and the husky, avoiding the simpering monotony of so many of her peers. This collection represents a gleaming legacy left by a talent taken painfully early from the world.
