Dernier album enregistré des Beatles (même si Let It Be est le dernier sorti), Abbey Road est un chant du cygne à la hauteur du groupe qui fait écho à certaines formes faussement conceptuelles de Sgt. Pepper's, mais avec des compositions plus solides et un travail de groupe plus orienté rock. Le groupe persévérait dans toutes les facettes de son art, que ce soit en concevant les meilleures harmonies jamais entendues sur un disque de rock, en élaborant un medley de chansons/vignettes couvrant une grande partie de la face B, en ajoutant des touches subtiles avec le synthétiseur de Moog ou en concoctant un rock furieux aux guitares imposantes. George Harrison est devenu un compositeur de talent, contribuant à la joyeuse "Here Comes the Sun" et à la ballade suprêmement mélodieuse "Something", devenue par la suite le premier hit des Beatles signé par Harrison.
