A des années-lumière des clichés du rap bling bling, Arrested Development déballe ses boubous, ses fleurs dans les cheveux et ses colifichets pacifistes. Emmené par Speech, le groupe né à Atlanta en Géorgie en 1988 propose une prose engagée, prônant un retour à la nature et à une certaine simplicité, en fusionnant funk, rap et rythmes africains. Une recette parfaitement maîtrisée sur ce premier album paru en 1992 et emmené par ses brillants singles Tennessee (et son sample d’Alphabet St. de Prince) et Mr. Wendal (contenant un sample de Sing A Simple Song de Sly & The Family Stone).
