Bay Area rapper Mac Dre's death in 2004 did nothing to slow the growth of his underground empire Thizz Nation; in fact, the artist has seen almost as many records released in his name in the years immediately following his death as he did when he was alive. One such album is 2006's 16 WIT DRE, a Dre sampler mixed as one continuous jam by DJ Backside. The set boasts plenty of Dre's patented mix of hardcore funk and witty, tongue-in-cheek raps about thug life and partying hard. 16 WIT DRE is a good place to get a taste of Dre's distinctive style, which is all at once smooth, tough, groovy, and never less than outrageous.
