“Dank ihrer bunten Mischung ist die amerikanische Musik so wirkungsvoll!”. Rhiannon Gidden hat einen gällischen Vornamen, einen weißen Vater, eine schwarze Mutter und ihre Vorfahren waren Occaneech-Indianer - somit ist sie die Vertreterin des multikulturellen Nordamerikas schlechthin. Giddens, die selbst über eine ganz besondere Sopranstimme verfügt, bevorzugt die undurchschaubaren Stimmen des Folk, des Soul, des Blues und des Bluegrass und präsentiert nun ihr drittes Opus. Eingeladen wurde sie nicht nur von den Coen-Brüdern (im Film Inside Llewyn Devis zusammen mit Elvis Costello), sondern auch von T-Bone Burnett, trat mit den Carolina Chocolate Drops auf sowie im Weißen Haus. Nach ihrem Debütalbum mit den Our Native Daughters (in Zusammenarbeit mit Leyla McCalla, Allison Russell und Amysthyst Kiah) brachte sie bereits zwei viel gefeierte Soloalben heraus. Die Vierzigjährige hat also schon ganze Arbeit geleistet. There Is No Other entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Multi-Instrumentalisten Francesco Turrisi und wurde in nur 5 Tagen in Dublin, vom hervorragenden Joe Henry produziert. Das Album enthält Eigenkompositionen sowie Neuinterpretationen früherer Stücke, die mit traditioneller, von keltischen und italienischen Elementen durchsetzter arabischer Musik untermalt werden. So kann man I’m Gonna Write Me A Letter von Ola Belle Reed hören, Brown Baby des Aktivisten Oscar Brown Jr, oder Pizzica di San Vito, ein Stück ganz besonderer Art, sowie das Thema aus Menottis Black Swan.
