Ulala Session

Working their way up from relative obscurity since their formation in 2011, South Korean boy band ULALA SESSION found their big break as the winners of the musical TV talent show Superstar K3, topping the national Gaon chart twice with their performances on the programme. Originally a four-piece consisting of Lim Yoon-taek, Park Seung-il, Kim Myung-hoon and Park Kwang-sun, the K-pop group released a two-part series of mini-albums entitled Ulala Sensation in 2012, which peaked at number five on the national Gaon Album Chart and spawned the hit single “Beautiful Night”. Following a tragic public battle with gastric cancer, frontman Lim died on February 11th, 2013. The group’s lineup underwent several changes in the ensuing years, with Kwang-sun leaving the band to enlist in the military, two new members coming and going, and recent addition Choe Do-won finding a permanent role as part of the group’s current three-piece formation. After reaching number ten on the national album chart with their 2013 EP Memory, the band self-released a less successful debut studio album, reJOYCE, in 2014, which entered the Gaon chart at number 22. The group have since made musical contributions to several TV shows and soundtracks including Blow Breeze, Ugly Miss Young-Ae and Queen of Mystery 2, and released a new single in 2017 entitled “Beautiful”, a collaboration with rapper and Vismajor Company affiliate Wutan. In 2020, they returned with another new single, "Spring in September".
