The third release in Varese Sarabande's series of soundtracks culled from the cult-favorite television series Xena: Warrior Princess features in its entirety the infamous all-musical episode The Bitter Suite, spotlighting the cast's surprisingly capable vocal skills. Star Lucy Lawless proves a fine singer, and while her colleagues aren't always quite up to snuff, this is far less cringe-worthy than other similar television experiments (read: Cop Rock). Credit composer Joe LoDuca for writing a collection of clever, heartfelt songs that not only fit comfortably within the established Xena mythos but add to them new layers of depth and emotional resonance -- craftsmanship aside, however, this is a disc that will appeal almost solely to the series' devout fan base, who will no doubt savor it in full.
