Quatre ans après At War With Reality, l'institution melodic death metal suédoise At the Gates revient en 2018 avec To Drink From the Night Itself, son second effort studio depuis sa reformation en 2007. Malgré le départ en 2017 d'un membre clé en la personne d'Anders Björler, le groupe reste fidèle à son inspiration initiale, reprenant les choses où Terminal Spirit Disease les avaient laissées en 1994, là où son prédécesseur s'était contenté d'offrir une suite prévisible au magnum opus du groupe paru en 1995, Slaughter of the Soul. Fort de la fidélité du public européen et porté par les sonorités progressives du single "Daggers of the Black Haze", To Drink from the Night Itself enregistre de belles entrées dans les charts germanophones, belges et finlandais.
