The Truest S*** I Ever Said

Paul Wall makes the Dirty South's bleakest album even bleaker on the screwed-and-chopped version of C-Murder's Truest $#!@ I Ever Said, an album the rapper recorded while in prison. Wall is wicked with the scratching and he knows when to make these tracks stutter, but he's also been handed an album that easily lends itself to screwing and chopping and there's an argument to made that he's playing it too safe. Although the slowed-down genre was given birth by drug use, Truest is extra paranoid and dark in its screwed-and-chopped form and no one with the slightest tendency to freak-out should come anywhere near this while holding a bottle of cough syrup. Wall doesn't slow down the tracks as much as others would, but if this were anymore gloomy it would be suffocating. Wall handles C-Murder's darkest hour with much skill, but in the end it's not whether or not the depressing Truest $#!@ I Ever Said: Screwed & Chopped is any good; it's whether or not you're up to the challenge.
