Magnétique, Leyla accroche. Et décroche surtout, avec ce troisième album, des instants de joie. Elle est de celle qui évoque l'histoire. New-yorkaise aux origines haïtiennes, elle s'est fixée dans le bayou de la Louisiane pour mieux creuser ses racines créoles, entrer en résistance, excaver ou raconter l'injustice sociale et environnementale. Ces huit ans passés au soleil de La Nouvelle-Orléans l'ont épanouie. Leyla McCalla a délaissé son violoncelle pour mieux s'ouvrir à la clarinette, violon, piano, guitare électrique. Pour la première fois épaulée par un groupe, King James & The Special Men, la multi-instrumentiste a brassé plus large. Le folk rétro de Capitalist Blues trempe dans le calypso (Mize Pa Dous), le R&B (Me and My Baby) ou le blues créole (Lavi Vye Neg), quand sa voix, tantôt créole, tantôt anglaise, en absorbe les différentes aspérités.
