Qui connait ou se souvient de Bobby Whitlock ? L’excellent label de réédition Light In The Attic ressuscite ce génie oublié de la country soul (à moins que ce ne soit de la soul country…) en rééditant ses deux albums solo de 1972, Bobby Whitlock et Raw Velvet. Deux pépites conçues avec quelques invités cinq étoiles parmi lesquels George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Bobby Keys, Klaus Voormann et Delaney & Bonnie. Chanteur, songwriter, claviériste et guitariste né à Memphis le 18 mars 1948, Whitlock a d’abord imposé son nom au sein des Friends, le groupe de Delaney & Bonnie. Rapidement, il rejoindra Clapton, Jim Gordon et Carl Radle au sein de Derek & The Dominos, formation culte qui assurera derrière Harrison sur le double album All Things Must Pass de l’ex-Beatles, et enregistrera surtout un classique baptisé Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. C’est à cette époque que Bobby Whitlock s’amuse à jouer et enregistrer pour lui. Le résultat est une pure merveille d’alliage de soul, de country et de pop à (re)découvrir sur cette réédition incontournable.
