Derrière la braguette « conçue » par Andy Warhol se cache une nouvelle orgie opiacée et lysergique où le rock’n’roll, le blues, la country et le rhythm’n’blues copulent à tout-va ! Après l’enchaînement fou des essentiels Beggars Banquet et Let It Bleed, Mick Jagger et Keith Richards signent sur cet album paru le 23 avril 1971 des compositions toujours aussi impressionnantes, aux riffs de guitare on ne peut plus carnassiers (Brown Sugar), hantés par les drogues dures (Sister Morphine). Sur ces Doigts collants, on trouve de la sensualité démoniaque (Wild Horses), des thèmes violemment percussifs (Sway) ou salement blues et poisseux (You Gotta to Move). Avec l'aide de la crème des musiciens de l'époque (Ry Cooder, Jim Dickinson, Bobby Keys, Nicky Hopkins, Paul Buckmaster…), ce chef-d’œuvre est aussi le premier Stones 100 % sans Brian Jones, avec des débuts époustouflants de Mick Taylor (Can’t You Hear Me Knocking). Sans hésitation l’un des dix plus grands disques de l’histoire du rock’n’roll.
