Leona Lewis, gagnante de la troisième saison de l'émission X Factor, joue le jeu des majors et chante ce qu'on lui met sous la main, sans jamais se plaindre lorsqu'elle doit faire du R'n'B pour séduire le marché américain. Ces mélodies sont légèrement plus tape à l'œil que le reste de l'album, mais les beats ne font jamais d'ombre à la voix de Leona Lewis, Spirit ayant pour but de faire la part belle à son chant. Contrairement à la plupart des divas, il y a dans sa voix une qualité humaine; elle interprète la chanson sans faire étalage de sa voix. On ne peut pas s'empêcher de penser au premier album de Mariah Carey de 1990. Spirit lui ressemble beaucoup, avec ses chansons orientées R'n'B qui dissimulent un album pop grand public.
