Quel avenir s’offre à vous, si ce n’est la musique, quand vos parents s’appellent Waylon Jennings et Jessie Colter ? Pour Shooter Jennings, c’est un lourd héritage qu’il porte en lui et avec lequel il est presque impossible de rivaliser. Comme pour Hank Jr, ce fils de a dû trouver sa propre identité musicale. Personnage authentique, passionné d’armes à feu, des icônes outlaw et de ce bon vieux Tennessee, il représente le country-rock sudiste contemporain. Son premier album en 2004, Put the O Back in Country, confirmait son amour pour George Jones. Avec son look de bon redneck, sa voix légèrement nasillarde, ses albums décalés et imparfaits, difficile de ne pas ressentir de tendresse pour le fils de Waylon. Pour son dernier album éponyme, ce fou du country-rock-electronica rend hommage à… Giorgio Moroder ! Oui, le pape du disco célèbre pour sa BO de Midnight Express et revenu récemment en grâce avec l’invitation des Daft Punk sur Random Access Memories. Soutenu par Dave Cobb, Shooter Jennings signe avec Shooter l’album qu’il qualifie comme le plus country de sa carrière.
